David Milligan from Capp’s Marine will be teaching a marine essential skills cohort in Lax Kw’alaams

Marine Basic First Aid – March 19-20
Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3) – March 21
Radio Operator Certificate – Maritime (ROC-M) – March 22
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) – March 25-29
Requirements:

The Research Assistant/Community Liaison will work with a TUS/Socio-economic research team to train and build experience in collecting and managing cultural heritage information. The project will document and manage material related to the Lax Kw’alaams Band history and culture. It will also include conducting surveys with the membership to determine the impacts of development on the social and economic condition of the Band and its members. The successful applicants will receive guidance and training. Skills listed below for the position refer to skills already possessed by candidates or those which people are interested and committed to developing. Interest and commitment are priorities in applicants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Archival & Field Research, Co-ordinating Interviews, Data Management
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to Speak/Understand Sm’algyax would be helpful
- Knowledge and/or interest in First Nation culture and history
- Interest in research
- Interest in field research
- Interest in interviewing elders and other knowledgeable First Nation people
- Commitment to learning new research and computer skills
